E-Note June 27, 2025

Dear Peace members and friends,

Enough rain everyone? When it comes to the nature’s unpredictable ways, I have often replied to pleas from church members such as, “Pray that my outdoor wedding/game/match/backyard lounging doesn’t get rained on,” with the line, “I don’t do weather!” But today, I’m hoping that you’re drying out and the sun will shine…..soon

As you know, Jesus healed many people. But he didn’t heal everybody. He walked by all the sufferers laid out on pallets by the Jerusalem pool and healed only one man who had been lying there for years. Jesus was downright annoyed when huge crowds sought him out for healing and interfered with his teaching.

Those facts beg some questions: what, for Jesus, is health and wholeness? How did Jesus care for those he encountered? Further, how do we, as his followers, care for others in his name? As a pastor for a few decades now, I have never stopped struggling with those questions and in worship this Sunday (9:30am), I will reflect on how my mind has changed in a message: “Caring with Jesus.”

This Sunday, we’ll also be blessed by a Peace Choir trio of Gayle Haugen, Gerry Dooley, and Anita Platt; gather the children for a message; and gather together for Holy Communion. I look forward to seeing you!

This last week, the annual Vacation Bible School took place at Community of the Cross Lutheran Church. The theme was “Truth North.” 18 youth and 11 volunteers from Peace, joined with CCLC youth and volunteers for an amazing week of uplifting music, Bible stories, crafts, exciting games, and much, much more! My thanks to all the kids, parents, and volunteers; to CCLC; and to Daina Sivanich for all her work in helping to make this terrific week happen!

We continue to collect “most needed” items for VEAP and their work to care for the needs of our neighbors. Laundry detergent, paper products (paper towels, bathroom tissue), dish soap, personal care and feminine hygiene items (shampoo, toothpaste, hand soap, toiletries), diapers, and baby wipes are in demand. Drop off your donations in the VEAP cart in the Narthex. Thank you!

See you Sunday!

Mark
