Dear Peace Families,
On Sunday, eleven elementary aged students and their parents got to enjoy our annual communion class. While Peace gives communion to everyone who wants it—therefore we don’t have a “first communion” like many of us adults may have had in the past—this class gave students the opportunity to learn more about communion, why we do it, why it’s important, and where it comes from.
The group also got to enjoy a meal together, do a taste test of different communion breads, create their own communion cups, and take a tour of the altar and sacristy—AKA the “super secret small room,” as they called it.
One of my favorite parts of the class, though, was giving the students and parents the opportunity to give communion to one another. It’s a powerful experience to give the bread and wine/grape juice to others, but especially to your own family members, and declare: “This is the body of Christ given for you,” and “This is the blood of Christ shed for you.”
We will celebrate these students this weekend during worship, both for all the learning they’ve done, and for the wonderful people they are. Join us!
Two important final notes:
- Tomorrow night we will be hosting White Elephant Bingo here at Peace from 6:30-8:00pm. All ages are invited to enjoy the festivities, and we ask you to bring “white elephant” items from your home to give as prizes. Both the games and the prizes are sure to bring plenty of smiles!
- Additionally, camp registration is open! There are opportunities to enjoy time at Camp Wapo, Family Camp at Luther Crest, and a service trip to Chicago. Look below for more details, and be sure to sign up before registration closes on February 15th!
