Dear Peace Members and Friends,
September is right around the corner and I have a reminder for you at the bottom of this note.
But first, a word about this Sunday’s worship (9:30am). I was chatting with a friend the other day and we were commiserating over what seemed to be a long, long list of nasty, cruel behavior and talk that we’d been about hearing in the news. Finally he just blurted out, “Doesn’t anyone know how to be a considerate human being?!?”
On Sunday, I would like to tell you about one such person who was considerate. His name was Onesiphorus. We don’t know much about him but he is mentioned in the New Testament for one reason: he was helpful to one person we do know all about—St. Paul. In our sermon series “Ordinary People in the Bible” I’ll tell you more about Onesiphorus, his care for Paul, and our own care for one another in a message, “On Being Kind.”
We also will have the joy of gathering around the altar for Holy Communion, hearing a Children’s Message, and sharing in fellowship following worship. I look forward to seeing you!
A reminder: this week we begin a 6-session class, Thursdays from 10:00am to noon, Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Jennifer Monroe, from Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness, will help us gain knowledge, support, and self-care tools to help you take care of yourself while caring for the ones you love. You will learn tips to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, manage time, better communicate feelings, and make tough decisions. The total cost for all sessions is $20. It’s not too late to attend!
To register, you can email Normandale Center at [email protected] or call them directly at 952.977.9357. Neighbors, community residents—everyone—is welcome!
Last of all, a reminder: Gathering Sunday is September 8th, including a “Fall Festival” for all ages. More information will follow but mark it on your calendars!
See you on Sunday!
Mark
