December 30, 2022
Dear Peace Members,
We’ll still be celebrating Christmas this Sunday in worship (9:30am). In the Christian tradition, dating back to at least 587, the 12 days from December 25 to January 5 were a time of celebration and joy recalling the stories of Jesus’ birth and the few stories that we still have about Jesus’ youth. Some are hard to imagine, such as Jesus, Mary, and Joseph fleeing King Herod and going to Egypt. Pastor Joe will preach on this story. We’ll sing carols and celebrate Holy Communion.
This Sunday, we will also give thanks for the ways we sought to live as God’s people this last year and kick off the new year. Personally, it’s always a good for me to spend time reflecting on the previous year, writing down the blessings, and the sorrows. Recall the major world events, the highlights of the ministry here at Peace, and the experiences and challenges our families shared.
I’d love to encourage you to do the same, giving thanks for the blessings, laying before God the burdens, and inviting God to guide you in the year ahead. We’ll pray that we might bring Christ’s light into the world in 2023.
One note: there will be no Education (Sunday School or Adult) on Sunday. Join us in the Parish Hall following worship for fellowship and refreshments.
My affection to all of you and I look forward to what God has in store for our congregation and in our lives in 2023!
Grace and Peace,
Mark
