Dear Peace members and friends,
It’s Advent. And church doesn’t get much more joyful than these last couple of weeks of Advent and Christmas as we anticipate hearing the proclamation of the Christmas angel: “….I bring you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day….a Savior……”
And yet we know, joy isn’t easy. We don’t feel joy all the time (even at this time of the year!) Joy is something that most everyone seems to want. And yet joy can be a tricky thing to define. Joy. What is it? Where does it come from? How do we get it?
That’s why Sunday is important. Ahead is the 3rd Sunday in the season of Advent. And Christians and the Church have a special name for this day: Gaudete Sunday, “Joy Sunday.” We will light the candle of joy, sing carols of joy, hear Bible readings about joy, and think about joy. The Peace Choir will sing. Pastor Joe will have a children’s message and we’ll gather around the altar for Holy Communion. An exciting Sunday ahead!
And following worship, we’ll welcome back to Adult Education Hour Tim Taylor, the managing editor of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, for the second of a two-part presentation to discuss questions like, “Does ordinary economic life hold a capacity for virtue, or is virtue something that happens outside economic life? Does the study of economics itself discourage less moral behavior?” Those who attended last week’s presentation raved about his presentation. Don’t miss this week!
A reminder of other Advent activities coming up. There is the Blue Christmas Service of Evening Prayer next Wednesday, December 14th at 6:30pm. Further information about this and other events and ministries can be found online at www.peacebloomington.org or by calling the Church Office (952.944.6510).
See you Sunday!
