Dear Peace Members and Friends,
I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s worship (9:30am)! For one, we’re having a “Hymn Sing.” And that means during the portion of worship where we typically share in the Lord’s Supper, we will instead sing hymns that have been chosen by you—yes you. We’ll take a few minutes at the beginning of the service so you can look up your hymns. In the meantime, you might want to be pondering your hymn choice!
In worship, we’ll also continue with our sermon series just begun, “Ordinary People” with a focus on Jacob. While he takes up a number of chapters in Genesis and he is—along with Abraham and Isaac—considered one of the patriarchs of Israel, he’s no perfect person. We’re told Jacob is a liar, a cheat, and a thief. He’s always ready to run away from his problems. Jacob’s not a Bible hero. Still, I can’t help it. I like Jacob! Why? Because of he fought with God. I’ll say more about him and us in a message, “Jacob and Wrestling with God.”
I also want to call your attention to an upcoming course at Peace: Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Beginning in late August and continuing into September, Peace is co-hosting this class with Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness. Taught by certified instructors, this class will help us gain knowledge, support, and self-care tools to help you take care of yourself while caring for the ones you love. You will learn tips to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, manage time, better communicate feelings, and make tough decisions. This 6-week class begins on Thursday, August 22 and will continue weekly until September 26th. The total cost for all sessions is $20. To register, you can e-mail Normandale Center at [email protected] or call them directly at 952.977.9357. Join me and others for this timely and helpful class!
See you on Sunday!
