Dear Peace Members and Friends of Peace,
It’s good to be back from vacation! My wife, Marcie, and I enjoyed some time away and now I’m looking forward to being with you on Sunday.
This Sunday is the festival of the Holy Trinity, the only feast day devoted, not to an event in the life of Jesus, but to a teaching of the Christian church—that God comes to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Why is this an important day in the life of the church? It’s a day and a teaching about the Christian faith that is not forcing us to act, not only to feel (which is easier) but also to think; to open our minds to who God is and what God has done and does for us. That is to say, Holy Trinity Sunday gives us a way to think and talk about God. I’ll say more in a message entitled, “Our Talkative God.”
On this festival Sunday, the Peace Choir will bless us with music, we will share in the Lord’s Supper, and we will welcome into the body of Christ here and everywhere, in holy baptism, Avery James Elling, the son of Rob and Kelsey Elling. A good day ahead!
Last of all, I want to thank you for your continued efforts on behalf of Lutheran World Relief and VEAP. There’s a bin in the narthex in which you can continue to put items at any time which the Service and Mission Committee will get over to VEAP. Most-needed items are: Laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and personal care items (shampoo, toothpaste hand soap, shaving cream, and toiletries).
And we join in Lutheran World Relief efforts and their ministry of baby care kits. Items needed are new or gently-used baby clothing in sizes 6-24 months, socks, large receiving blankets (between 36″-52″ square), cloth diapers, and pins, gentle bar soap, and hand towels. In the name of Jesus Christ, thank you for your continued care for our neighbors near and far!
See you Sunday!
Mark
