E-Note – Lent – March 19, 2024

Dear Peace Members and Friends,

Our last Lenten Midweek worship and fellowship is tomorrow night with worship at 6:30pm, preceded by dinner being served, beginning at 5:30pm!

In worship, we’ll praise and pray along with Holden Evening Prayer.

We will also conclude our sermon series, “God in Pain: The Suffering of Jesus….and Our Own Suffering.”

One of my favorite writers, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wrote in a letter after the kidnapping and death of her baby son, Charles Jr.: “I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love, openness, and the willingness to remain vulnerable (Hour of Gold, Hour of Lead).”

Yes, all of us suffer. And suffering—our own, the world’s, and God’s—is one of the most complex issues of faith. In our worship tomorrow night, we’ll let Scripture and our Lord point us to a stronger, wiser faith, a confidence in God’s deep love, and for who God is. I’ll say more in a message, “The Suffering of God.”

Join us again as we conclude our walk through Lent…..walking with Jesus through his suffering and Jesus walking with us through our own.

Grace and Peace,

Mark
