E-note March 28, 2025

Dear Peace Members and Friends,

I opened up the newspaper this morning and read the weather forecast; a prediction of a possible high today of 78 degrees! Maybe—just maybe—spring weather is here to stay! I hope all of you are getting a breath of that fresh air today.
This weekend we have the 4th Sunday in Lent. In worship (9:30am), we will hear one of the most famous parables of all. But what to call the story Jesus tells about a father and two sons? In the original, there were no parable titles but that hasn’t stopped hundreds of readers from offering up their own. I’ve read story titles of everything from the commonly named parable of the Prodigal Son to the parable of Eldest Son to the parable of the dysfunctional family to the parable of the father who lost two sons and theparable of the Prodigal Father, and on and on! On Sunday, I’ll say more about this Gospel story, the Peace Choir will sing, we’ll have a children’s message and we’ll all share in Holy Communion.

Following worship, we will welcome to the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), Johan and Sonja Hinderlie who will do a presentation (in costume!) on Martin and Katie Luther and the Reformation times in which they lived. A good Sunday ahead!   A further Adult Education note: We were unable to finish last Sunday’s presentation, “Accompany Them with Singing: The Christian Funeral.” We will complete the presentation and discussion, a “Part Two,” yet this spring. I apologize for the inconvenience.

A reminder: The funeral service for Milt Lefebvre will be held tomorrow, March 29th, at 11:00am, preceded by a visitation from 10:00-11:00am. All are welcome to attend.

Last of all, it’s spring break in the Bloomington public schools and I know that some of you are traveling. We hope you have a fun and renewing time! A prayer: “Lord God you kept Abraham and Sarah in safety, you led the children of Israel through the midst of the sea, and by a star you led the wise men to the infant Jesus. Protect and guide all who travel, make their ways safe, and their times together joyful. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
See you the rest of you on Sunday!
Mark
