Dear Peace Members and Friends,
What might happen if every Easter we celebrated—not only the resurrection of Jesus 2,000 years ago but more—the ongoing resurrection of the whole world through Christ? Well, that’s exactly what we do during the 50-day season of Easter. This Easter season is the affirmation of our continuing resurrection from fear to faith, from violence to peace, from self-gratification to generosity and—in all these ways and more—from death to life.
This Sunday in worship (9:30am) Easter continues. We’ll sing Easter hymns, celebrate Jesus’ presence in Holy Communion, hear again the post-resurrection story of Jesus appearing to the disciples by the sea, and a message on that story, “Breakfast with Jesus.” Yet, most of all, we will be witnesses to and participate in the Affirmation of Faith of three young people: Kiya Losinski, Noah Mattson, and Niklas Anderson.
Following worship, there will be another “resurrection” event: Lutheran World Relief Baby Care Kid packing in the Parish Hall. Your giving made it possible for the purchase of clothing and blankets that, in turn, improve the odds of survival for malnourished children. Come and join in the packing!
Last of all, four reminders:
- Vacation Bible School will be held June 23-26, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Registration is now open for potty-trained preschoolers through kids entering 5th grade in the fall. Parents can register their children in the Narthex on Sunday or online.
- Wednesday evening Bible study resumes this coming Wednesday, May 7th from 6:00-6:55pm in the Parish Hall. We’ll reflect on some of the Holy Week and Easter texts. Join in with a fun group!
- Next Sunday, May 11th, in Adult Education, we will begin a two-part series on “Immigration.” On May 11th, we will welcome Steven Thal, an attorney specializing in immigration law and on May 18th, we will welcome Cori Ertz from the International Institute of Minnesota who will discuss services provided to immigrants. Join us for conversation on this important issue.
- Last of all, the funeral service for Kurt Schumann will be tomorrow at 10:30am, here at Peace and preceded by a visitation from 9:30am.
See you Sunday,
Mark
