E-Note November 3, 2023

Dear Peace members and friends,

First of all, don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Sunday!

Here’s one reason why: it’s All Saints Sunday, one of my favorite days in the life of the church…..and you want to be in worship. Every year this festival calls us to remember that Jesus Christ has made all the world a thin place between the living and the dead. Saints are not simply the dead in Christ. Saints, according to the New Testament, are any believers who have been baptized into Christ, living or dead. And so to believe in the “communion of saints” is to believe and trust that Jesus Christ has made a bond between all the baptized that is shared not only by all Christians throughout the world but also across time.

So this Sunday, we will celebrate name and remember Peace’s newest saints and those saints who have died. And no less important, we’ll hear some encouragement for our lives from the saints—whom the book of Hebrews also calls, “the great cloud of witnesses.” We’ll gather with saints past and present around Holy Communion, be blessed by our children in the Alleluia Choir and by the (slightly older!) Peace Choir. All Saints! A great festival for God’s people. Join in!

In the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), we’ll conclude our series on the life and witness of the 20th century German pastor, martyr, prophet, (saint) and spy, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Join us for a thought-provoking and meaningful hour.

A reminder: Harvest Pack is a week from Sunday, November 12th. Immediately following worship on that day, we’ll gather in a cleared-out Parish Hall to bag simple meals for those in need. Last year we packed over 14,000 meals! Volunteers are needed to do the same (and maybe more) this year! Join in with Peace members for this meaningful and fun activity. You can sign up at church, online, or by calling the Church Office (952.944.6510). Thank you ahead of time!

And don’t forget the time change this weekend!

See you Sunday,

Mark
