E-note October 11, 2024

Dear Peace Members and Friends,

Before I get to this Sunday’s worship and activities, I want to remind you of the aftermath of both of the recent hurricanes in our nation’s southeast. Yesterday, I spoke with Peace members who winter in Florida, and they came through okay, other than they expect the electrical power to be out for days (3-4?). Still, while Milton and Helene have passed through, devastation remains. What can we do? First, pray for all those who have lost so much. Second, you can be the answer to some of your own prayers! Part of your weekly offering provides for those in hard-hit areas. You have and you can make a difference, providing ongoing support and care. In the name of Christ, thank you!

This Sunday (9:30am), we are trying out a slightly different worship setting. It comes from our hymnal and its basic parts and music will be familiar to long-time Lutherans. I look forward to it! Pastor Joe will have a message, “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” Led by Marcia Craig, the Sunday School Singers, will bless us with their first song of this fall. The Peace Choir will sing and we will share Holy Communion at the Lord’s Table. A good Sunday ahead!

In the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), we’ll complete our look, begun last week, at Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus and a prominent figure in the Gospels. If there is time, we’ll continue with a refresher on Holy Communion.

A reminder: Next week (October 20) in the Sunday Adult Education Hour, we will welcome Mark Tranvik, Associate Professor at Augsburg College who will speak on the timely topic: “Religion and Politics: Why We Get It Wrong and How to Get It Right.” Join me!

A last word: Thank you, Peace for the way you give of yourselves to bless others and spread kindness. Jesus said, You are the light of the world…let your light so shine before others that they may see your good (noble, beautiful, lovely) works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” You do this in so many, many ways.

See you Sunday!

Mark
