Dear Friends,
What if the names we’ve been given didn’t have to be the names we carry forever?
This Sunday, we’ll explore Jacob’s transformation in Genesis 32 and Paul’s words about becoming a “new creation.” God does not erase our past mistakes, wounds, or decisions. Instead, Grace gives us the freedom – and indeed calls us – to become something new.
As we celebrate The Reformation, we’ll remember that the church, too, is always being re-formed and renewed. Let’s consider together what it means to be changed by grace, both personally and as a community – to recognize that we are made to grow, to change, to begin again, and maybe even to become someone we could not yet imagine ourselves being.
Martin Luther penned 95 grievances against the main Church during the 16th century. Help me welcome Adam Boldenow, MDiv, for our Adult Education hour to talk about these “theses” as we call them. It will be educational and a chance to “nerd out” with me on what it means to be a Lutheran!
I hope you’ll join us Sunday as we worship and wonder together about the new things God might be forming in us.
A special invitation for Saturday: We will gather to remember and celebrate the life of Doris Earl. I have already heard so many wonderful stories about Doris’s warmth, joy, and gift for making people feel welcome. “One of the joys of community is that we help divide one another’s sorrows.” I hope you’ll join Doris’ family, friends, and church community as we grieve, give thanks, and remember a life so deeply loved.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Anne
