Dear Peace Members and Friends,
Sunday is Reformation Sunday beginning with worship (9:30am). While other Protestants join in, the day is a particularly Lutheran celebration which commemorates the witness of Martin Luther, the beginnings of an historical movement that swept Europe and changed the western Church—all are important and all have influenced us.
Nevertheless, they are not the center of gravity for Lutherans. There is something else at the core of the Reformation that changed us then….. and still does. I’ll say more in a message, “The Main Thing.”
Also on this festival Sunday, the Peace Choir sing, Pastor Joe will have a Children’s Message, and, of course, we will gather together around the altar in Holy Communion. Reformation: a great day in the church’s year; a great day for us all!
In the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), we’ll talk more about the Reformation. As you know, Martin Luther was a bigger-than-life character. With that come legends and often misleading information about him. I look forward to telling you some of those things in Myth or Truth?: 10 Things You Thought You Knew About Martin Luther.
A reminder: the annual Halloween activity, “Trunk or Treat,” is Sunday at3:30pm in the church parking lot, regardless of the weather. Dress warm!
Another reminder about next Sunday’s (November 3) Festival of All Saints; the day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead and celebrate the newest saints, those baptized in this last year. If you wish for someone to be named in this service, please enter their name in the remembrance book in the narthex of the church.
Also coming up is one of the terrific service events of the year, Harvest Pack. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall after worship on November 10th and pack meals for those in need. Meals packed are kept in our local community for organizations such as VEAP and Every Meal. Our goal this year? 10,000 meals! If everyone joins in, it takes about an hour. Please join us and also help us by signing up as early as possible in the Narthex or online at peacebloomington.org/events/harvest-pack. Thank you!
Last of all, midweek Bible study continues on Wednesdays from 6:00-6:55pm. We’re studying some of the Psalms. There is no need to commit to all sessions and every week. Join us any time you are able!
See you Sunday! Mark
