Dear Peace members and friends,
Sunday is Reformation Sunday. We celebrate the good news of God’s grace in Jesus Christ that the Apostle Paul discovered and wrote about in the book of Romans and that Martin Luther rediscovered in his life; good news that changed him, the church, changed history, and still transforms us. I’ll say more in a message, “But Now…..”
Also on this festival Sunday, the Peace Choir sing, Pastor Joe will have a Children’s Message, and, of course, we will gather together around the altar in Holy Communion. Reformation: a great day in the church’s year; a great day for us all!
In the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), we’ll continue our series on the life and witness of the 20th century German pastor, martyr, prophet, and spy, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We have had a terrific video presentation by a recent Bonhoeffer biographer, Eric Metaxas, and thoughtful conversation following. I encourage everyone to join in on an important discussion for us!
A reminder: the annual Halloween activity, “Trunk or Treat,” is tomorrow from 3:30-4:30pm, regardless of the weather. Dress warm!
Another reminder about next Sunday’s (November 5) Festival of All Saints; the day we celebrate the victory won for all the faithful dead and celebrate the newest saints, those baptized in this last year. If you wish for someone to be named in this service, please enter their name in the remembrance book in the narthex of the church.
Last of all, throughout the year, you, the people of Peace, participate in number of ways to help alleviate hunger: VEAP, Loaves and Fishes, Minnesota Food Share. In two weeks, we’ll participate in another: Harvest Pack. Immediately following worship on November 12, we’ll gather in a cleared-out Parish Hall to bag simple meals for those in need. Last year we packed over 14,000 meals! Volunteers are needed to do the same (and maybe more) this year! Join in with Peace members for this meaningful and fun activity. You can sign up at church, online, or by calling the Church Office (952.944.6510). Thank you ahead of time!
See you Sunday,
Mark
