E-note October 4, 2024

Peace Members and Friends,

This was an energizing week at Peace! Wednesday Bible studies, Confirmation studies, and Choir are in full swing. A group gathered to make quilts. Older adults met here at church for lunch and fellowship. Plans are being made for welcoming new members in October and, further out, for some of the biggest occasions of the year; Reformation and All Saints Sundays, Advent, and Christmas. Through all these events and plans life is given and life is shared as we go about encouraging and growing in our life together in Jesus Christ. Thank you all!

On Sunday, we’ll gather again for worship, education, and fellowship. In worship, we’ll return to Mark’s Gospel, following Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. And along the way he gets tested by a group of religious officials about marriage and divorce. Jesus’ response reminds us of the seriousness of both as well as his welcome to children. Yes, these two are related! I’ll say more in a message, “Marriage and Divorce.” Pastor Joe will offer a children’s message, we’ll gather around the altar for the Lord’s Supper, and—last but certainly not least—share in the baptism of Maren Winkelman, the daughter of Trevor and Ashley.   In the Adult Education Hour (10:45am), we’ll do a bit of Bible sleuthing. What do I mean? One of most important subjects in recent Biblical scholarship concerns Mary Magdelene, a follower of Jesus and a prominent figure in the Gospels. What has been discovered has challenged and excited the thinking of many. I’ll share with you that discovery and its implications for us. Join me!

See you Sunday!
