Dear Peace members and friends,
It was terrific to see so many of you last Sunday! Children and families gathered inside and outside as we began the Sunday School year. The Peace Choir blessed us in worship. The smiling faces! All in all, a great Sunday; thank you to all!
This Sunday, we continue the sermon series, “Church and Community.” As you know, when Jesus called the disciples to “follow me,” he called them not just as individuals, but as a group. You and I have been called in the same way; called to be a part of a community called, the “church.” Church is where and when we best come to hear and grow in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is where we are woven into a new kind of community God continues to create.
And what are the practices and values of this new community? I look forward to sharing a word about that in a message entitled, “Building a Christian Community: Part 1.” Also in worship, we will bless the students and teachers as they begin Sunday School.
In Adult Education (10:45am) and following a short preview of fall ministries intended for last Sunday, we’ll begin a 3-part discussion on “Teen Mental Health.” This Sunday, Pastor Joe Orner will present followed on consecutive Sundays by guest speakers Sandy Mortensen (September 24) and Marguerite Ohrtman (October 1). Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, or just concerned about our children, this session will be valuable for all.
Last of all, our ministry alongside Lutheran World Relief continues. On Sunday, a few members of the Service and Mission Committee will be in part of the fireside area packing baby kits to be sent overseas to those in need. Stop in and take a peek at this work as, together, we at Peace Lutheran Church, continue to do “God’s Work; (with) Our Hands.”
See you Sunday!
Mark
