Dear Families and Friends of Peace,
Parents, especially parents of teenagers, I’m undoubtedly sure you know that it can sometimes be very difficult to get your kids to open up, be talkative, or say nice things about you…
- “How was school?” “Good.”
- “Tell me about your day.” “It was fine.”
- “What were some things you talked or learned about?” “I don’t know.”
There’s always that phase…
But last night I asked our Confirmation students to write down important friends, important people they look up to, and important events from their life—and I think you’ll find their answers to be very encouraging.
When asked to share what made their friends important, the most common answer was knowing that person for a long time—in other words, they’d been friends long enough to have gone through many joys and challenges and growing experiences together.
And when asked who they looked up to, nearly every student mentioned one or both of their parents.
Why? Because you are supportive and caring. Because you are smart and work hard. Because you spend quality time with them and provide for them.
Whether they vocalize it often or not, your students love you, care about you, and notice all that you do for them—and it has a big impact on them, and they’re grateful for it (and you) too.
So don’t forget: you’re doing a great job!
Grace and Peace,
Joe
