Dear Peace Lutheran Church Friends and Family,
We had quite a day last Sunday when the power went out just before we were to begin our morning service – YIKES! Fortunately, everybody kept their cool and we proceeded as usual, with just a few minor adjustments. For instance, we sang along with the piano instead of the organ, and we gathered under the dim emergency lights instead of our regular lighting. But it all went well, with the best news of the day being that the coffee had already been brewed, so after worship we were still able to gather for refreshments and conversation!
This Sunday morning we’re hoping for a little less “adventure” when we’ll hear these comforting words of Jesus: “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” It’s a beautiful invitation from our Lord to find rest for our souls, especially during these “dog days” in the middle of this hot summer!
We’re also excited to have a guest preacher this week, Jacob Ulland. Jacob is a recent seminary graduate who served as my intern in my previous parish, Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. Please welcome him warmly on Sunday!
Finally, the Call Committee met with the Church Council last Sunday, June 28 to make a formal recommendation regarding a pastoral candidate. The Council affirmed their recommendation, and a Congregational Meeting has been set for Sunday, July 12 to consider this person as Peace’s next pastor. Further details will be shared about her at the meeting in order to help the congregation make a faithful, informed decision. Please continue to keep the process in your prayers, and please make every effort to attend the meeting after worship on July 12! Thank you!
God’s Peace,
Pastor Jeff Engholm
P.S. Please wish Lee Truhlar a happy birthday the next time that you see her! She will turn 101 on the 4th of July!
