Dear Peace Members and Friends,
Last week, we began our Midweek Lenten Worship series with Holden Evening Prayer and the theme, “Lessons from the Desert.”
We started with the Hebrew people, freed from slavery in Egypt, and through the Red Sea. Now they were on their way to the Promised Land. But not so fast! They were in the desert. They could have gone on the other road—literally; the road called the “Way of the Philistines,” with water, rest stops, and restaurants along the way. But no! God leads them on another road; the desert road.
Desert. Wilderness. A place in our life we didn’t choose. A situation out of our control. A silence when the assurances of God seems absent. That’s where the Hebrew people found themselves.
If Israel’s life for 40 years in the desert and Jesus’ own 40 days in the wilderness has anything to do with us (and I believe it does!), there are important and meaningful things for us to learn in our deserts, too.
Tomorrow night, we’ll pick up “Lessons from the Desert” with the Hebrew people in the desert, hungry; hungry for the basics of life and wondering whether God will provide. We’ve been there. We’ll learn something about God the provider, control in our lives, and the grace of God.
Worship is at 6:30pm; dinner served in the Parish Hall beginning at 5:30. Join us for prayer, worship, and learning!
Grace and Peace,
Mark
