Dear Peace members and friends,
As all of you are aware, Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida yesterday and, this morning, is making its way inland in the Carolinas. It appears that this hurricane is one of the worst hurricanes to hit the United States in decades.
I want you to know that your offering supports the work of Lutheran Disaster Response at times such as these. Along with other partners in the region, Lutheran Disaster Response is responding with immediate relief, including water, clothing, gift cards, tarps and more. Thank you for your support! Along with our support of practical needs, we pray that God’s presence will be felt in the midst of suffering and bring comfort to those who are hurting. Together, we can show our neighbors in Florida, the southeast United States, and the Caribbean, that they are not alone. Thank you!
This week in worship (9:30am), we continue in our sermon series, “Great Stories of the Bible” with the Old Testament story Daniel and the handwriting on the wall. It is a great story about faithfulness: the little guy triumphing over the big powerful King and justice being served. But I have a confession to make: I don’t like this story! I’ll tell you why on Sunday. Also, the newly-formed Alleluia Singers will take their part in the service.
On Sunday in Adult Education, we will begin a series, “How We Can Feed the Future.” With fast-moving climate change and more and frequent conflicts, millions of people are increasingly left without daily bread to sustain their lives. With that in mind, the Service and Mission Committee encouraged a study into hunger and food with vision where everyone has access to safe, healthy food. In this series, we will learn and discuss some things about hunger and food through various short TED Talks which look at many facets of this important issue; both personal and world-wide. Come join us!
Last of all, my thanks to all those of you who attended last Sunday’s presentation by Congressman Dean Phillips. I’ve spoken with many of you who attended and I heard how informative the gathering was for you. I agree. It was helpful civil discourse among thoughtful and caring Christian citizens. Thank you, Peace!
See you Sunday!
Mark
